We here at Danes on Locust have come to the conclusion that a Mazda 626 and Civic Si are no match for a Great Dane's (or two) size. We cannot get both dogs into the Mazda, and they barely fit in the Civic with the seats folded down. Things are okay right now, but if we ever want to both drive somewhere and bring the Danes along, we're going to have to do without luggage.
As a solution to this problem, we decided to look into buying a van to replace the Mazda. Yesterday we drove a Honda Odyssey, Volkswagen Routan, and Toyota Sienna. Despite being mini vans, all three handled incredibly well, had lots of fun features, and, best of all, could easily handle both dogs and have a TON of space left for luggage, toys, kibble, leashes, coats, raised feeding bowls, and other neccessities when traveling with Danes.
